STUDENT GUIDANCE

Caring for Student Candidates

Darussalam Gontor 2 is the first step for student candidates to learn the teachings and education of Gontor. They immediately get involved in various activities designed to make them ready for entrance examination of ITTC Gontor. Moreover, the guidance staffs under the leadership of H. Husni Kamil Djaelani, S.Ag formulate, control, and evaluate OPPM programs. These are done to prepare OPPM managers for a better dedication and works.

Khutbatul ‘Arsy 1431

In the context of Khutbatul ‘Arsy agendas, Gontor 2 also arranges its own agendas. Started from Syawwal 22 1431, Gontor 2 held Local Language Demonstration and Rebana, Aneka Ria Nusantara (typical performance of various Indonesian Archipelagos), Song and Poetry Reading Festival, Haflah Tilawatil Qur’an (Qur’anic Recitation Performance), and Vocal Group Competition among Hostels. These agendas are finally ended on Dzulqa’dah 25, 1431 by holding the biggest agenda called the Art Performance.

Student Candidates Enrolement, Year 1431

In order to welcome the enrolement of student candidates, Gontor 2 manages some preparations. Among those preparations are decorating the yards with written ornaments and hanging Headmasters’ pictures at OPPM offices and hostels. In other words, Gontor 2 would do its best to prepare the enrolment of student candidates.

‘Idul Adha 1431

Welcoming Idul Adha Day Dzulhijjah 10, 1431, Gontor 2 involves all students and teachers in fulfilling sacrifice worship. The amount of Qurban animals in Gontor 2 reaches 146; 19 cows and 96 goats are slaughtered inside Gontor 2 campus, while the rest 21 goats are outside of the campus. The meats are then distributed to the poor in Madusari and Siman region. Finally, this agenda will educate students to have a care to Muslim society.

Gontor 2 Olympiad

In order to improve and strengthen the creativity and mentality of students, Guidance Counceling staffs in collaboration with sport section hold Gontor 2 Olympiad on Rabiul Tsani 6, 1432. The Olympiad features 6 sports i.e. Futsal, Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, and Sepak Takraw (Kick Volleyball). Besides sports, it also includes competitions in religious aspects as well as academic and art ones. Thus, Adzan competition, Memorizing Juz ‘Amma, Qur’anic Recitation, Intelligent Quiz, and Song Festival seem to be the exclusive features of Gontor 2 Olympiad.

Shalat Dhuha Movement

Concerning with students’ religious activities, Guidance and Counseling staffs in collaboration with Mosque management encourage students to perform Shalat Dhuha. For this purpose, Shalat Dhuha is held for every class by taking a turn during first break, from 08.30 am to 08.55 am.

Mukimin Study Tour

During the school break, Gontor 2 arranges a traveling to a picnic site for students who prefer staying at the campus. This year, Wisata Bahari Lamongan (Lamongan Marine Tourism) is chosen to be the tourism object. Leaving the campus on Rabi’ul Awwal 13, 1432, this organized tour is followed by 69 students and guided by 19 teachers.

ITTC ACTIVITIES

Mid-Year Examination

It is peculiar to Gontor 2, unlike the other branches of Gontor, the mid-year examination will determine students whether they stay at Gontor 2 or move to Gontor 1 or other branches of Gontor. The examination is held from Shafar 12 to R. Awwal 8, 1432 and has transferred 460 students of Gontor 2. The process of transfer is done after mid-term break and leaves 233 students staying at Gontor 2.

ITTC Entrance Test

The first part of the entrance test is followed by 1968 student candidates. Started with the oral test during six days, the written test is held on Sya’ban 14, 1431/July 26, 2010. In the oral test, the student candidates are tested on their psychology, reading of al-Quran, and ibadah amaliyah and qauliyah (the capability to practice Islamic rituals and memorize their prayers). Yet, the written one examines al-Imla (Arabic Dictation), Arithmatic, Mathematics, and Indonesian Language. Finally, the result test is announced on Sya’ban 27, 1432/August 8, 2010. In this test, 1664 student candidates pass the exam.

However, the student candidates who do not pass in the test can follow the second part of ITTC entrance test which is held on Syawwal month at Gontor 1 campus.

Academic Improvement Team

In order to improve the academic capability of students, ITTC arranges some intensive programs. For improving reading of Al-Quran, students are divided into small groups. Each group takes 2-5 students under supervision of a teacher who uses Iqra’ method in teaching Al-Quran. Another program focuses on Arabic writing improvement. In this program, student candidates ought to rewrite several times sentences written in special edition Gontor 2 textbook. These writings are finally submitted to a teacher who then corrects them.

SCOUT ACTIVITIES

Scout Camping Competition for Boy and Rover Scouts

Special scout troop of Gontor 2 named “Praspati Gorda” participate in Scout Camping Competition for Boy and Rover Scouts. The team sent to the competition contains 30 boy and rover scouts. Having special training from Scout Movement Coordinator section 04093, the troop involves in the competition held at Gontor 2 green square on Dzulqa’dah 18, 1431/October 26, 2010.

Thursday-Friday Camping

The camping followed by 242 students candidates is divided into two phases. The first phase takes place on Dzulhijjah 19, 1432/November 25, 2010 at Bancar, Bungkal. Yet, the second phase is held at Karangpatihan, Balong on March 31, 2011.

Cross Country

Cross Country is an activity of crossing the hills. This is done to make the students more skillfull and adaptable. In this year, the cross country is divided into two phases. First phase is held on Jumadal Ula 4, 1432/April 8, 2011, while the second one is on Jumadal Ula 11, 1432/April 15, 2011. In this moment, all students staying at Santiniketan and Syanggit hostels follow the program. The route taken in this year cross country is crossing two hills at Nglarangan, Kauman, which has 10 km travelled distance.

BUILDINGS

Park Area Paving

Gontor 2 paves the parking area and the street to classes at Makkah 1 building and Yaqdzah 3 and 4 building. This work is started from 1 to 15 Rabi’ul Awwal 1432 and costs Rp 52.000.000,00. Covering about 30 x 40 meters in width, this paving project makes Gontor 2 more beautiful and fresher.

Street Lighting Pole

The lighting poles on the street to the mosque and hostel yards have been installed. These poles are very useful to light the street and clear up power cables which are not well arranged before. Furthermore, these poles can be used to hang street banners for many programs held at Gontor 2. In this project, 28 poles have been installed which cost    Rp. 10.000.000,00.

The Evacuation of Gontor 6 Magelang

As the volcanic material released by Merapi Mountain increases, the Headmaster instructs all Gontor 6 students to be evacuated to Gontor 2. This evacuation takes place on Dzulhijah 8, 1431/November 15, 2011 which evacuates 837 students and 88 teachers. All academic and non-academic activities are designed to run as usual like what all students have at Magelang campus. Finally, after the condi tion returns to normal, they go back to Gontor 6 on Dzulhijjah 29, 1432/December 6, 2011.

Gontor 2 Islamic Album

In order to support students and teachers’ talent, Gontor 2 launches two Islamic albums. The first album comprising Shalawat songs with tambourine accompaniment is called SAHARA with his first volume title “Ya Rasulallah”. Yet, the second one focuses on Islamic songs named as NIDA’ takes its first volume title “The First Journey”.

Kitchen Garden and a Breed of Lele

In collaboration with Kitchen Cooperation Department, the Cleaning Center Deparment does gardening and breeding. The vegetables planted in the garden are finally supplied to the kitchen. The same thing is done to a breed of lele which is situated behind Makkah 3 building.

Sandal Factory

In reaching self sufficiency, Gontor 2 opens Latansa sandal factory. Using a machine donated by Gontor 1, the factory is capable to produce 500 sandals a month. These sandals are finally distributed to Student Cooperation of Gontor 1 and Gontor 2.
